Has to be the absolute WORST lab ever! Just a total waste of credits. Kept getting an authentication error regarding secure connection: ``` student_04_fdd72f9cebf9@cloudshell:~ (qwiklabs-gcp-04-879db4c02831)$ gcloud sql connect myinstance --user=root Starting Cloud SQL Proxy: [/usr/bin/cloud-sql-proxy qwiklabs-gcp-04-879db4c02831:us-east1:myinstance --port 9470] 2026/05/10 05:09:18 Authorizing with Application Default Credentials 2026/05/10 05:09:18 [qwiklabs-gcp-04-879db4c02831:us-east1:myinstance] Listening on 127.0.0.1:9470 2026/05/10 05:09:18 The proxy has started successfully and is ready for new connections! Connecting to database with SQL user [root].Enter password: ERROR 2061 (HY000): Authentication plugin 'caching_sha2_password' reported error: Authentication requires secure connection. ``` I wasted so much time: had to edit the cloud sql instance to first make it deletable, then wait for it to delete, then try to recreate it, this time making sure I copied the exact password, then tried connecting but still ended up with the same error. very very bad! this was absolute rubbish! EDIT: after wasting 3 credits, I finally got it to work by manually starting the `cloud-sql-proxy`, then using this command: `mysql --get-server-public-key -h 127.0.0.1 -P 3306 -u root -p`
