Canary part of the lab is done pretty poorly. Instead of scaling down first deployment to 0, it's better to led both deployments to run side by side and view how requests are hitting either first or second deployment by inspecting Server HTTP header that is different for different version of nginx server. Example: while :; do curl -I -s http://34.67.167.198:60000/ |grep Server; sleep 1; done returns Server: nginx/1.9.1 Server: nginx/1.7.9 Server: nginx/1.7.9 Server: nginx/1.7.9 Server: nginx/1.9.1 Server: nginx/1.7.9 ^C
