Two glitches. 1. ssh from bastion to the us-vm failed with a key error after the public ip address for privatenet-us-vm is deleted. I fixed this by running ssh-keygen on bastion and copying the key to the project metadata ssh key ring. 2. The instructions incorrect claim that access to google services like gsutil cloud storage will be blocked. Without a public IP or NAT, access to the external resource starwars.com was correctly blocked. However, access to google cloud storage was possible. I think this is actually fairly new, and there is no checkbox for private-ip google access any more.
