The pub/sub topic was not publishing anything. I tried running the lab twice on different days. In the result, I just googled the thing, and used a public topic from Google as a source: projects/pubsub-public-data/topics/taxirides-realtime

Many things you have to click have different names than written here. Maybe give more generic instructions with an image of the end result so people can play a bit more instead of just blindly clicking along
