After successfully correcting mistakes manually in .bashrc, the lab wouldn't accept my progress. I guessed at the format and eventually bypassed that. Later, GCP suddenly quit allowing me to connect via SSH and the lab timed out.

exec -l $SHELL didn't seem to work. Restarted the shell with the environment variables by just using bash.
