Although it was stated at the top of each section, it wasn't always clear exactly what (or why) I was going to accomplish by following the instructions.

Very good walk through for a first time.

Some visuals on what you just did might be helpful. Like a map of the VPC you created, the elastic IP and how that interacts with the EC2 instance you created etc.

Excellent lab. Easy to follow and simply informative. On item number 52, the key pair instructions were a little confusing because I really didn't know what to choose or to create my own. Just having the user select the default should be fine because I'm not going to use them anyway. On item 61, I also was confused whether I should select the Instance or Network Interface option. I eventually chose the Instance because I recognized the EC2 instance name. Those were the only two vague things, but otherwise excellent.

It would be nice to have a check that proves that the EC2 instance is not available before the internet gateway instructions and then prove that it is available after.

Consider adding how to create more custom subnets in the VPC, and how-to in assign an instance to a particular subnet w/in the vpc.
