There were some poorly written instructions: When creating a compute machine instance, there was an out-of-place Step 7 label before the image associated with Step 3 and, when configuring the bucket to share the earthquake data, it said to select all three earthquake files and click on share publicly - but this does nothing. You have to click the checkbox for each file individually and you really only needed to share the html file.
