The formatting of the content is a bit off. In addition the start up script doesn't produce a custom web page. The default Apache page is displayed.

mystartupscript needs to have the cat line modified to include a << EOF > It does not work as copied

start up script does not overwrite index.html. Instead it just displays it in the commandline. You need to cat > var/www/html/index.html EOL stuff EOF Took me way too long to figure out the supplied script did not work correctly

The startup script does not correctly modify the default web page. It is missing the > sign as well as a chmod 666 line on the index.html file.
