There's something wrong with metric creation and backend checking from Qwiklabs -- I think it may be that the console uses beta.compute.instances.insert vs v1, but not sure. To pass the metric section, even though I was getting alerting for new VM insertion, I had to manually edit the newVM rule to match the example image exactly (except for the instance_id). When you try to create an alerting policy from a metric, it reloads a new workspace with no metric data propagated, so that may also be involved with the issue.

I beleive this lab has some missing steps and it is logically connecting. For example, the agents to be installed was mentioning only Monitoring agent, but metrics are created based on logging agents. Need to revisit again to see if this works.
