hpa does not work with current instructions. hpa cannot get metrics from the container, so it never automatically scales. Always stays like this ---- NAME REFERENCE TARGETS MINPODS MAXPODS REPLICAS AGE web Deployment/web <unknown>/1% 1 4 1 13m ------- and $ kubectl describe horizontalpodautoscaler web Name: web Namespace: default Labels: <none> Annotations: <none> CreationTimestamp: Thu, 04 Mar 2021 09:48:06 +0000 Reference: Deployment/web Metrics: ( current / target ) resource cpu on pods (as a percentage of request): <unknown> / 1% Min replicas: 1 Max replicas: 4 Deployment pods: 1 current / 0 desired Conditions: Type Status Reason Message ---- ------ ------ ------- AbleToScale True SucceededGetScale the HPA controller was able to get the target's current scale ScalingActive False FailedGetResourceMetric the HPA was unable to compute the replica count: missing request for cpu Events: Type Reason Age From Message ---- ------ ---- ---- ------- Warning FailedComputeMetricsReplicas 11m (x12 over 14m) horizontal-pod-autoscaler failed to compute desired number of replicas based on listed metrics for Deployment/default/web: invalid metrics (1 invalidout of 1), first error is: failed to get cpu utilization: missing request for cpu Warning FailedGetResourceMetric 4m4s (x40 over 14m) horizontal-pod-autoscaler missing request for cpu

The horizontal pod autoscaler seemed to be broken. Failed to get resource metric request for CPU. Tried twice. Followed steps exactly and even copied and pasted in the commands. CPU for hpa was always <unknown>/1%
