issues with VM instance Python version compatibility If you have a compatible Python interpreter installed, you can use it by setting the CLOUDSDK_PYTHON environment variable to point to it.

The first Virtual Machine did not have properly installed python and gcc so it was impossible to pass step 1

The lab expects to build gcloud on the CentOS which supports Python3.6 but gcloud needs {Python3.8} which is not available from epel repos. Hence it cannot be done! This is a time consuming step that is not elaborated on the Lab Task 1 & 2. Thus it becomes infeasible to solve this lab in the requisite time.

You have an issue with pre-installed Python version at 2.7.5 and installing SDK script: elif builtin_type := BUILTIN_TYPES.get(arg_type, None): Managed to upgrade python version to 3.8.10 and it still doesn't install SDK. Can't progress through the course.

Default VM comes with Python3.6, which is no longer supported by gcloud SDK and prevents the completion of the lab. I had to compile Python3.8 myself, which requires some skills and time. Condider updating your deployment script.

had some issues with the bash file for installling the gcloud SDK. Fails with a sintax error at this line: curl https://sdk.cloud.google.com | bash
