I followed this lab step by step 2 times, and both times it didn't work. To be more precise, it raised the following error: "Failed to create pipeline job. Error: Permission 'aiplatform.metadataStores.get' denied on resource '//aiplatform.googleapis.com/projects/723539231551/locations/us-central1/metadataStores/default' (or it may not exist) To make it work, I needed to give the compute engine the "aiplatform.metadataStores.create" permission.

This lab is more less follow instructions and click here, click there etc. I didn't find it very useful from a data engineering perspective. It's something you can also just read from a manual.
