The version of the Istio is too old. I followed this document: https://istio.io/docs/examples/bookinfo/ And enabled the auto-inject, then the error will be gone.

when I run kubectl apply -f <(istioctl kube-inject -f samples/bookinfo/platform/kube/bookinfo.yaml) I got error Error: template: inject:175: function "protoToJSON" not defined service/details unchanged serviceaccount/bookinfo-details unchanged error: error parsing /dev/fd/63: error converting YAML to JSON: yaml: mapping values are not allowed in this context
