Such a long first step made me rather nervous on the lab's ability to verify my work if I did things out of step (ie made a mistake and had to backtrack). Previously, mistakes on other labs would cause the work to be unverifiable and I would have to restart the entire lab if a verification step went wrong. The first step should be split up so that there were more frequent checks in my doing the right work.
