In this lab, Under Step 2: Create VM in vpc-a, In step 6, the Region must be us-west and zone must be us-west1-b for vpc-b-vm-1. There is a typo as you have mentioned to select us-central1. Kindly check and update the instructions.

a couple of wrong instructions, actually many.... the the subnet configuration instructions are failing me and am getting demotivated because of trying to figure out your instructions. I finished the lab with 95% and its now billing my credits every time i take a lab!!!!!

Be sure to change the region where to deploy the VM vpc-b-vm-1, otherwise, you won't find any subnetwork when configuring the network interface.
