I noticed the job to train the model did not make use of vertex ai, and when I went to the console it offered to mgirate it to vertex ai this should be updated. the structure of the model we were training was not explored at all.

You need to specify in the instructions to create the workbench instance in us-central1 (or restrict the available regions for deploying the instance to only this region), otherwise if you create the instance in a different region, such as us-west1 as I did (because us-west1 is the default region selected in the console), the last step will fail.
