The dataset to be used for querying was not already imported in BQ and steps from an earlier Qwiklab had to be followed to get the dataset ready prior to executing code of this lab.

No product catalog data or user event data was prepopulated, so yet again I had to repeat steps from another lab to actually be able to do anything. After this, the search serving config did not work. No matter what search query I use in the evaluate tab, the result was : Search requests with this query will bring zero results. This entirely breaks the lab. Same result from the command line part too.
