I guess the lab is pretty strict about the file name and making sure the https port is not opened by accident. So once I re-run the lab by only allowing http communication all worked.

The tips for the last step are quite cryptic. I was able to launch my test site using apache in port 80 using the public and private IP; however, I'm not sure what was the specific action that needed to be performed so the task was validated.
