What the heck is the name of the instance you are attempting to validate against? There is no guideline for what instance names should be used. I tried "apache" and "instance-1", but neither resulted in the test for creating a VM passing. I logged into the lab-monitor instance and looked for the script that validates it but had no luck. Please be absolutely clear on what instance name your lab monitor expects.

The instructions didn't mention to deploy the VM to us-central1-a but the assessment fails if deployed to another location

There is no bucket already within the program, when you run gsutil ls command you dont get any output

This was a helpful diagnostic to help me see what I do and don't understand, and how well. I'll be back. Still not sure why the scorecard agreed I set up a http rule but didn't start a VM? Ok. I did learn what I needed to. Really love this learning platform. Ready whenever I am. Discovered the cloud.google.com searchable instruction manual. Able to troubleshoot and risk testing my assumptions empirically in a safe way to speed learn. Enough challenges without being a brick wall. As an educator, with many thoughts on the history of education, I offer this off the cuff thought. I DO feel like this is as daunting as learning to become a surgeon. Systems this & that. BIG topics in themselves but you just have to keep moving. And yikes! You can cause real harm if you are wrong. In late 2018 the goal is not to set-up a graduate training program that produced a ton of doctors like during the Vietnam War. What were alternatives for people who didn't go that route? It was the 5th Pathway. Would need to flesh this thought out. But I feel like Qwiklabs is a kind of D.O. path (not MD) to broaden the educational reach. Clearly my own advanced education and basic math aptitude is a big help with me feeling I can do any of this leap learning, but as a model of education I can see Qwiklabs for cloud training as following in the path of med education training. Eventually, you need to add not only the offensive education of the surgeon - but also the defensive mentality of the ER doc, or hacker. Train for the person who has to take whatever comes at them. Random thoughts. Finally, I see this Challenge as a kind of homework. Different kind of learning. For me, a next step in owning what I know. I wish there were more of these for different skills. Like firewalls, networks, etc. But the balance is certainly good for where I am in my learning curve.
