I had set the correct project ID in the console and pasted the commands on Task 1, though the lab did not recognize I had the VM setup correctly. Although the Task 1 checkpoint did not function properly, all other checkpoints and steps worked fine.

I can't complete task 1. However, I have successfully completed all other tasks. Today it was my fourth attempt. The first time, I have completed task 1 but had a problem with the second one. All the next times I have completed all tasks except first.
