Subject: Issue with GSP917 Lab – Missing Dataset in Cloud Storage Description: During the GSP917: Predicting Customer Lifetime Value with Vertex AI lab, the dataset online_retail.csv was expected to be available in the assigned Cloud Storage bucket (gs://qwiklabs-gcp-02-d442b4d71672-bucket/data/). However, upon running the data_download.py script, it failed with a 404 Not Found error, indicating that the dataset was missing. Steps Taken to Resolve: Verified the existence of the Cloud Storage bucket using gcloud storage buckets list. Checked for the dataset in the /data/ folder using gsutil ls gs://qwiklabs-gcp-02-d442b4d71672-bucket/data/, which returned a "No objects found" error. Manually downloaded the dataset from the original source (https://archive.ics.uci.edu/ml/machine-learning-databases/00352/Online%20Retail.xlsx). Uploaded the dataset (online_retail.xlsx and online_retail.csv) to the correct Cloud Storage bucket. Successfully re-ran the data_download.py script, which loaded the dataset into BigQuery. Suggested Improvement: Ensure that the dataset files are correctly preloaded in the designated Cloud Storage bucket before the lab starts. This would prevent users from encountering unnecessary errors and delays in completing the lab.
