There's an error on 1st step, You need to manually install python3 before running the 2nd step curl https://sdk.cloud.google.com | bash. The error is generated by python version 2.7.5, as it's not supported by the SDK. Only python v3.5 and above.

Commands provided to install sdk does not work as it is incompatible with python 2. It wasted a lot of lab time to fix that.
