It's easy to miss that you are instructed to install a previous (non-default) Debian version when creating the VM. It would be better to illustrate a failing call to another service or with different permissions on the service account. The instructions are outdated with respect to the interface ("Networking, Disk, ..." is now called "Advanced Options").
