One of the best labs I've ever done. This really tells the story of GCP. We've been using this approach as a battle plan, but I really love how it shows the progression of on-prem type approach with a lift & shift to the fully cloud native approach with a file based trigger in GCS with a cloud function to submit queries against BigQuery.
