I think that a lab should reinforce concepts and for this handwritten character recognition would be enough. This lab didn't let to concentrate on a unique thing and this is a waste of the precious time of learners, beyond computer energy that is not sustainable for the environment :-(

Time on training the model is too long I made the every step the same and it's took more than 1,5h. Maybe you should upload ready model on Vertex AI and thank to it users don't have to spend so much time on training this model.
