The network version 6.0.0 was incompatible with the default of google beta. And commenting the network version caused step 6 to be marked as failed. Even though the network was created and the vms were connected to the proper subnets -- Second attempt After fixing the version issues I still have the same issue. All the VM are connected to the proper subnetworks, I was able to apply the firewall rules and verify that step. If I add tcp:22 and icmp to the firewall I could even test the connection which is broken. I think the lab is broken at this point
