You need an engineer to fix this mess. The spec files needed edits in multiple areas to be created without errors. I can't imagine someone who's new to this succeeding at this lab.

Git repo is outdated. Uses namespace extensions/v1beta1 for deployments which was removed in 1.16. Now apps/v1 is the required namespace. After updating the files accordingly everything worked out fine.
