kept timing out stating that i was in violation and was forced to start over. my actions were inline with the lab instructions.

There is only one checkpoint at the end of the lab. Going step-by-step through the lab leads to ending the lab automatically with information that the student is not going through the steps mentioned in the lab. To finish the lab there's a need to to all the steps very fast or just create the firewall rule and check the activity progress.
