Makefile allows to control very well how cleaned up or built is the environment but does not allow student who does not know well Makefile constructions what kind of all activities are perfmormed. What I would change in this lab would be - ask students to execute all these commands which in the background make executes. If this would be done - then lab would be perfect. Not always more and cleaner is better for students.
