the resolution of the issue was to change the apiVersion from apps/v1beta2 to apps/v1. This solves the issues...

"extensions/v1beta1" had to be changed to "apps/v1" in 2 of the kubernetes yaml files. The "test your application" section for Task 4 was an exact copy of Task 3 which seemed incorrect.
