The lab should have additional steps to allow the user to further interact and view details of the VM by either directing you to log in to the VM and view some details, do some basic operations - basically get a feel of the system they just deployed. This tutorial is just about using the UI which is good for introduction but there is no real understanding of what happens post creating a VM and bringing up services
