Working with JSON, Arrays, and Structs in BigQuery Reviews

Noticed that even if i did not "UNNEST" some fields, I am still able to run the results successfully, but the "Check Progress" forcing me to "UNNEST", it will be great if i can understand the reason.

Explanation could be simpler. Maybe it is my slow grasping power but felt that time limit to complete the lab was very less. Got overwhelmed and simply copy pasted a few solutions.
