New temporary account is generated for each lab, which may induce some confusion about the how the config of the last exercise (using source and .bash_profile) is persistent. I would add a disclaimer that the region/projectid will only be persisted across restart of the Cloud Shell within this Lab ONLY.

Cloud Shell has a persistent storage, which can be used to save an initialization file with all of the necessary variables. Then simply source that file when Cloud Shell starts.

Instructions are unclear which doesn't leave enough time to complete the lab before the instance crashes while guessing wtf the instructions intend. Shell comes with a constant for project ID built in -- $DEVSHELL_PROJECT_ID.
