You need to add "-d type=maven-project" argument to the spring initializr curl command, it generates a gradle project without it

The tutorial was not clear. Not all steps are clear. The tech in the tutorial is different than the one in the cloud (one is in mvn, the other one in gradle) The application just stopped working after the first messaging
