There is an gcloud storage command which is incorrect. Also you started using gcloud storage command and description still says gsutil. Kindly update description of the commands. Thanks.

The lab time was severely limited, with NO room for errors. And I did run into an error, where --storage_class is no longer an option when creating the bucket. I had to dig into the documentation and found that the current option is --default_storage_class.
