The Lab Guide is outdated with respect to many of the instructions, leading to errors and unexpected behavior. Additionally, presumably because of using a "shared" account (the Qwiklabs account), an error may be introduced by Lambda helpfully trying to "recover" some unsaved code: At step 53, my Python code was actually JavaScript code! I had a nifty message from the Lambda editor that it recovered some unsaved code; clicking the "restore" link replaced the faulty code with the correct Python for the lambda-canary blueprint.

Sample python code was always giving error to test SNS. Able to get fail notification but not the pass one.
