This lab is currently broken due to a runtime dependency issue in Task 5. The App Engine Flexible deployment fails repeatedly with ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pkg_resources'. Despite attempting several troubleshooting steps—including downgrading the Python runtime (from 3.12 down to 3.10) and explicitly adding setuptools to requirements.txt—the error persists. It appears the Google Cloud Buildpacks for the Flexible environment are provisioning an image where the gunicorn entrypoint is decoupled from the user-installed dependencies, or the base Ubuntu image has deprecated setuptools without updating the WSGI server requirements. Task 5 is impossible to complete as written. The lab needs an urgent update to its base images or a fix for the gunicorn execution environment.
