I was unable to ssh for the first time from vm-2 to vm-1. I was able to ping though. I had to delete and recreate the vm and then it worked (did complain about ECDSA being changed, nice)

Instructions are inaccurate. For one part you have to click on Activate Cloud shell instead of Open Cloud Shell. Also at one point it rejected my credentials for several minutes. I had to retry login several times using same login and password and eventually it let me in.
