Important information was missing from the tutorial (the elasticsearch domain name and vpc flow log group name) and so the setup didn't work as expected. No data came into Kibana. I opened a support ticket for this.

Elasticsearch 2.3 is not available any more and Elasticsearch 5.5 and above can't parse the dashboard json file
