could not complete step 24 due to user not having permissions to view logs (IAM step did not mention anything about this)

I encountered 2 issues: 1) Instructions show setting up the S3 bucket name with some capital letters, but the application requires all lower-case. 2) I could not view the log files because of the following error: "This IAM user does not have permission to view Log Streams in this account."

The cloudwatch logs for the lambda function were not enabled and my user could not enable them.
