Dense for Cloudformation new comers, hopefully I use it pretty a lot lately. Maybe you should update templates to yaml

Neat to learn about but there needs to be an interactive console where we can write the scripts ourselves to practice in the lab.

Excellent balance of detailed and powerful Infrastructure as Code examples and explanations, balanced by quick lab allowing us with considerable IaC & CloudFormation experience to fill in our gaps quickly and move on (I used to write OpenStack heat templates, so the concepts are very similar).
