Two things to be aware: 1 - It takes while to the load balance URL to propagate (page 24) 2 - There was no available instances to use in the load balance in other zones so I could only see one instance running (attached to the load balancer). Great lab! 4 stars.

Creating a stack using the specified URL kept timing out, preventing me from finishing the lab.

I really enjoyed it! But all the waiting for instances to boot was a bit of a PITA

Page 16 - Wrong If you check out the mappings in the template, you will see that both the m1.small and m1.medium are 32-bit architectures, and they use the same base Amazon Linux AMI. "m1.small" : { "Arch" : "32" }, "m1.medium" : { "Arch" : "64" }, ---- Updating the stack from the m1.small to the m1.medium introduced an outage. Not a good pattern to promote. This is fixed later on by introducing an ELB, which is good. ---- It would be good if you explained why you are creating the /etc/cfn/cfn-credentials, /etc/cfn/cfn-hup.conf and /etc/cfn/hooks.d/cfn-auto-reloader.conf files. Also, can't those creds be done with instance roles? Why do you need to write them to the file system?

There have been updates in the Stack Create/Update pages which are not reflected in the lab. For example, the stack name now must be entered after specifying a template, which is the other way in the lab. This did not cause me any problem however.
