You should warn the user that over 80% of this lab time will be spent twiddling thumbs -- 10 minute wait for CloudFormation stack creation, 19 minute wait for CloudFront distribution creation, 4 minute wait for invalidation. That's over 30 minutes of waiting alone when you're estimating a 30min completion time for the entire lab.

"In-Progress" in distribution creation and invalidation never changed - just kept spinning. I continued on with lab, eventually, and everything worked as expected but "In-Progress" never stopped spinning.

It worked this time. completion time is unrealistic due to time of initial lab setup and cloudfront configuration times.
