Basic Lab... It would have better to test it with the client. Without it, you really don't know whether the Minetcraft Server started successfully or not. On the security note, the EC2 instance is started with Security Group. I hear that best practice is to launch an EC2 instance with IAM role. If you launch EC2 instance in an IAM role, then it gives permission to that EC2 instance (through rules) to do certain things on your behalf. This obviates you from smearing security credentials across your EC2 instances. Although, we are just launching one EC2 instance, still it would be good to follow this practice to reinforce this point.
