Straight forward - seems slightly out of date with regards to EIP -- you need to go to VPC in the AWS console and then associate an EIP to your instance and you get the public IP from the bottom summary of the EIP that was created.

Could not copy and paste code with OS X and Chrome. This was frustrating.
