We create a Databse that we say is private except from web servers but we don't do any verification at all. The database doesn't serve any data, we don't test it. As far as I can tell it should be public because the IGW was assigned to the VPC and not to an individual subnet.

I wish there was some validation that the web server could talk to the database server at the end. Just saying "everything SHOULD be working" isn't sufficient.
