I've tried following this twice and the result is the same, if I look at what is actually happening with a request to xxxx.cloudfront.net then a redirect is issued and it takes *longer* to handle the request than without the CDN. There is a redirect that is being cached and this tutorial skirts over that by getting you to make an HTML page that hides this redirect.
