The section where you try to make the first image public was confusing. The 'permissions' tab can be for either the image or the whole bucket. You have to specify to click on the picture name in the s3 console in order to make sure they get the correct permissions tab. Just clicking on the row will not do this, and instead the permissions tab will be for the whole bucket
