Lab seems broken with too many strange issues: - Region in the instructions (us-central1) is different from the one that the checks expect (us-east-1). This made me waste a lot of time until I discovered the issue. - Clusters after scale up operations cease to accept new jobs or take forever. In the end, I had to recreate the cluster from scratch to have a functional cluster. - Last step (scale out) was not recognized. Since I had to re-create the cluster scaled up, just adding 3 new nodes did not work. Doing a scale in later led to the same issue above: cluster taking forever to run new jobs.
