There was an error in the instructions. We were told to exit the SSH shell to the postgres-vm, but later on we were told to return to that window and apply some further changes (not difficult to re-connect, but the instructions were wrong). It wasn't clear to me until the very end and we got to see the database running as master that previously I was seeing the postgres instance that was running on the VM in the SQL section of the console.
